Strong to severe storms are anticipated to develop mid-afternoon and persist through the evening as a cold front moves southward. Damaging winds and large hail are expected to be the primary threats, with a secondary risk of tornadoes.
According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois, the storm threat will most likely peak between 2 PM and 11 PM today. The impacted areas include southeastern Iowa, northeast Missouri, and west-central Illinois. The storms will generally move southeast at approximately 30 mph.
Residents in these regions are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Precautionary measures such as seeking indoor shelter when storms approach are strongly recommended. The National Weather Service highlights that uncertainty remains regarding the exact timing of these storms, but the highest risk remains along and south of Highway 30.
The forecast for the Quad Cities International Airport area predicts temperatures reaching up to 96°F today with a high chance of rain. Rain is expected to continue intermittently throughout the week, with temperatures ranging from mid-60s to mid-80s.
