Portland, ME – Maine residents should prepare for a significant weather shift this afternoon as strong to severe thunderstorms are forecasted to move into the region, bringing the threat of torrential rainfall and gusty winds. The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, has indicated that while the morning saw only scattered showers, the intensity and coverage of storms are expected to increase as the day progresses.

According to the Weather Prediction Center, areas across Maine could see heavy downpours that may lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas. The storms also carry the potential for strong wind gusts that could result in downed trees and power lines, leading to possible power outages.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours when the storms are likely to peak. The NWS advises securing outdoor objects that could be blown away and avoiding travel during the worst of the storms if possible.
