Pueblo, CO – Southeastern Colorado residents should prepare for severe thunderstorms expected later this afternoon, extending into the evening. The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a warning for the region, predicting storms initially developing over the southern Sangres, Wets, and Raton Mesa before moving east.

According to the NWS, these storms will bring gusty outflow winds potentially reaching 70 mph. Additionally, there is a significant threat of hail, possibly as large as ping pong balls, particularly over the far southeastern plains later tonight. The areas most at risk include locations east of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, such as Walsenburg, Trinidad, and the surrounding communities.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Outdoor plans should be reconsidered due to the potential hazards. The storm system may also cause isolated tornadoes and flooding in some areas, so preparedness is crucial.

As the evening progresses, those in the southeastern plains should expect the most severe impacts, with conditions possibly worsening into the night. The NWS urges all residents in the affected areas to take this weather event seriously and remain vigilant for updates.
