Cambridge, MD – The National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA has issued a Frost Advisory effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as temperatures between 33 and 36 degrees are expected across portions of eastern Maryland and Virginia’s Northern Neck region.
The advisory includes Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and inland Worcester counties in Maryland, and Richmond, Westmoreland, Northumberland, and Lancaster counties in Virginia.
According to the NWS, frost formation could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation, particularly in sheltered or rural areas, where lows could briefly reach 32 degrees. Residents are urged to cover tender plants, move potted flowers indoors, and avoid watering overnight, which can increase frost damage risk.
While this will not be a hard freeze, the early-morning chill will bring one of the coldest temperatures of the fall so far, signaling that the growing season is nearing its end for coastal areas.
Temperatures are expected to warm later Saturday morning, but early risers can expect visible frost across grassy and shaded areas.
