Danville, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Frost Advisory effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as temperatures are expected to dip to around 33 degrees across portions of southern Virginia and northern North Carolina.

The advisory includes Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties in North Carolina, along with Patrick, Franklin, Henry, Pittsylvania, Halifax, and Charlotte counties in Virginia.

According to the NWS, frost formation could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation, especially in rural and sheltered areas. Residents are urged to bring in potted plants, cover gardens, and avoid watering overnight, which can increase frost damage.

This advisory marks one of the first widespread cold events of the season, signaling the end of the growing season for many areas in southern Virginia and the North Carolina Piedmont. Skies will clear overnight, allowing frost to form rapidly before sunrise.

Conditions are expected to improve after 9 a.m. Saturday as temperatures climb into the upper 50s and low 60s by afternoon.
