Wayne County, OH – Drivers across northeast Ohio could encounter slick, snow-covered roads starting Wednesday afternoon as a burst of lake-effect snow moves into the region, creating hazardous travel conditions overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Wayne County and surrounding areas from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Snowfall totals are expected to range between 2 and 4 inches, with winds gusting up to 35 mph, reducing visibility and causing drifting on open roadways.

The advisory also includes Lorain, Medina, Mahoning, Stark, and Wayne counties, where untreated roads could quickly become slippery. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office warned that snowfall developing after early afternoon could intensify during the evening and overnight hours, increasing the risk for crashes during holiday travel.

Ohio Department of Transportation crews are preparing for changing conditions, especially on rural routes, bridges, and overpasses where snow and blowing wind may lead to icy patches. Motorists are urged to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and delay non-essential travel if possible.

Conditions are expected to improve after daybreak Thursday, though additional advisories could be issued if lake-effect snow bands linger longer than expected. Travelers should monitor updates and check road conditions before heading out.
