Dearborn, MI – A shoplifting incident at a local business Tuesday quickly led to an arrest after Dearborn Police deployed a drone to track the suspect from the air.
According to the Dearborn Police Department, officers responded to a reported retail theft on April 21 and launched their Drone First Responder (DFR) Unit within minutes. The drone provided real-time aerial surveillance, allowing officers to pinpoint the suspect’s location and coordinate a response on the ground.
Police said officers used the live feed to follow the individual as they moved through the area. After a brief pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect or potential charges, but said the individual allegedly fled the scene before being located.
The incident took place in Dearborn, located in Wayne County within the Detroit metro area, where law enforcement agencies have increasingly adopted drone technology to assist in active calls.
Officials say the DFR program is designed to improve response times, enhance situational awareness, and reduce risks to both officers and the public. Similar deployments have been used in recent months to locate suspects and support patrol operations across the region.
Dearborn Police emphasized that drone-assisted policing is becoming a key tool in modern law enforcement, particularly in fast-moving situations where immediate visibility can make a difference.
