Wayne County, Indiana – A traffic stop in Richmond led to the seizure of more than two pounds of cocaine Saturday evening.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Terro Johnson on February 7 at approximately 7 p.m. following a traffic stop initiated for speeding and erratic driving. Authorities said the stop resulted in the discovery of approximately 2.2 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $90,000.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) had reportedly been monitoring Johnson for several weeks as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. Officials said SIU detectives coordinated with patrol deputies during the stop.

During the encounter, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 conducted a free-air sniff and alerted to the presence of narcotics, according to authorities. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered the cocaine.

Johnson was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Wayne County Jail on a charge of Dealing in Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug, a Level 2 felony.

“This is a significant seizure that prevents a large amount of cocaine from reaching our community,” said Major Alan Moore, Chief Deputy.

All persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Younger residents and commuters traveling through Richmond may notice increased enforcement efforts as the investigation continues.
