Wayne County, IN – Two drivers were arrested on separate alleged operating while intoxicated (OWI) incidents along Interstate 70 during back-to-back overnight shifts in eastern Indiana, according to Indiana State Police.

According to Indiana State Police Pendleton District, the first incident occurred on December 21, 2025, Sunday, at approximately 1:11 a.m., when Trooper Zachary Arnold attempted to stop a black Chevrolet passenger vehicle for speeding on I-70 near the 123-mile marker. Police say the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, leading to a short pursuit of about four miles before pulling over.

The driver, identified as a 48-year-old woman from Richmond, allegedly showed signs of impairment during the investigation. After completing standardized field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail, police said.

A second incident was reported just over 24 hours later. According to state police, Wayne County Dispatch received a call on December 22, 2025, Monday, around 12:45 a.m., about a possible impaired driver traveling eastbound on I-70 near the 138-mile marker.

Trooper Arnold located a silver Ford Taurus matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. Police say the 41-year-old driver from Indianapolis allegedly had the odor of alcohol and displayed signs of impairment during the stop. Following field sobriety testing, the driver was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Jail.

Indiana State Police emphasized that overnight enforcement remains critical, especially on major interstates like I-70, which sees heavy overnight and early-morning traffic across Wayne County, Henry County, and the greater eastern Indiana corridor.

Motorists are reminded that impaired driving endangers everyone on the roadway and that designated drivers and ride services are encouraged.
