Wayne County, IL – A routine traffic stop tied to a long-term narcotics investigation led to the arrest of an Albion man and the seizure of a significant amount of methamphetamine Monday, according to local authorities.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted the traffic stop on Monday, December 22, as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine across Wayne County. During the stop, deputies made contact with Kyle O. Hicks, 32, of Albion.
Authorities say Hicks was taken into custody based on an active Wayne County arrest warrant charging him with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine between 15 and 100 grams, a Class X felony under Illinois law. Deputies reported that Hicks initially resisted arrest and had to be taken to the ground before being restrained. He was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
During the arrest, deputies allegedly located approximately 44 grams of methamphetamine in Hicks’ possession.
In addition to the existing warrant, Hicks now faces several new charges, including Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Speeding, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hicks is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail, where he is awaiting a detention hearing.
Officials emphasized that the investigation into methamphetamine distribution in the county remains ongoing.
As with all criminal cases, Hicks is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
