Waycross, Georgia – A sharp blast of cold air is putting southeast Georgia on alert as sub-freezing temperatures move in overnight, threatening vegetation, pets, and exposed pipes across the region early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday for much of southeast Georgia, including Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Clinch, and Ware counties. Overnight lows are expected to dip to around 30 degrees in communities such as Waycross, Douglas, Jesup, Baxley, Alma, and Folkston.

In addition to the immediate threat, a Freeze Watch has been issued from late Monday night through Tuesday morning as colder air settles back into the region. Temperatures could fall as low as 28 degrees, raising concerns for sensitive crops, unprotected plumbing, and those without adequate heating.

Officials urge residents to bring pets indoors, cover tender plants, and check on elderly neighbors. Exposed pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly to reduce the risk of freezing. Extra caution is advised for young children and anyone without reliable shelter.

Cold conditions are expected to ease after sunrise Monday, but another round of freezing temperatures remains possible Tuesday morning. Additional cold weather alerts may be issued as confidence increases.
