Wautoma, Wis. – Severe thunderstorms racing across central Wisconsin Saturday afternoon are expected to bring damaging winds, torrential rain, and the potential for flash flooding through early afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that gusts could reach 60 mph, with risks of roof and tree damage across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the storms were moving east at 45 mph just after 1 p.m., stretching from near Lake Wazeecha to Plainfield and Westfield. The warning remains in effect until 2:15 p.m. for southern Portage, Waushara, southern Waupaca, and western Winnebago counties.

Communities in the storm’s path include Plainfield, Wautoma, Redgranite, Waupaca, Fremont, and Rush Lake. Drivers should avoid flooded roadways as heavy downpours could quickly overwhelm drainage systems. Power outages are possible where tree limbs or debris impact lines.

Residents are urged to seek shelter in interior rooms on the lowest floor and remain alert for any signs of tornado development. The threat of severe weather may continue east into the Fox Valley later in the day as storms progress.
