Watseka Woman, Child Survive Train Collision in Iroquois County

Watseka, IL – A 31-year-old woman and her child narrowly escaped serious injury when their car was struck by a train in Iroquois County on Sunday.

According to Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police, the incident occurred as the woman attempted to turn across a double set of railroad tracks on Sunday afternoon. She did not see the oncoming train, which was traveling at a significant speed. The train collided with the right rear of the vehicle, sending it spinning off the tracks and into a nearby ditch.

Both the woman and her child were immediately taken to a local hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The sheriff’s department emphasized the importance of exercising extreme caution when approaching railroad crossings. They noted that the area where the accident occurred is marked with warning signs and signals, urging drivers to remain vigilant.
