Cleveland, Ohio – Calm but watchful conditions are in store for boaters and beachgoers along Lake Erie this weekend, as waterspouts could spin up Saturday morning while wave heights remain generally at or below one foot.

According to the National Weather Service Cleveland, high pressure will keep lake waters quiet through Sunday, with the exception of a land breeze that may trigger a few waterspouts near the shore early Saturday. Marine areas from Avon Point to Conneaut, including Geneva-on-the-Lake and Maumee Bay, will see minimal wave action—just 1.0 foot or less from late Friday through Monday.

Key stretches of the Ohio shoreline, such as Vermilion to Avon Point and Willowick to Geneva-on-the-Lake, could briefly see waves near 2 feet Saturday morning, but overall lake travel should be smooth. Boaters are urged to monitor conditions closely at sunrise, especially between Vermilion and Conneaut, as isolated waterspouts can develop with light winds and stable air.

Swimmers and paddlers should remain alert for changing weather, and anyone venturing onto the lake is advised to have safety gear ready and monitor NWS marine alerts. Waterspout risks are highest during the morning hours, especially before 9 a.m. Saturday.

Calm conditions are expected to persist into early next week, but NWS Cleveland will issue further advisories if weather patterns change.
