Pittsburgh, PA – The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reports that as the snow winds down across western Pennsylvania, wet roads may refreeze overnight, leading to patchy black ice—especially north of Pittsburgh and in low-lying or shaded areas.

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing tonight, creating conditions for slick, nearly invisible ice to form on roads, particularly bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.

Drivers traveling late tonight or early Monday morning are urged to use extra caution, reduce speed, and avoid sudden braking or sharp turns. Even if roads appear dry, black ice can make them extremely slippery.

The NWS also advises checking local road conditions via 511PA before traveling and allowing extra travel time for the Monday morning commute.
