Ann Arbor, MI – Commuters along I-94 east of Jackson Road faced delays Monday morning after a tractor-trailer crash that left one driver seriously injured, according to the Ann Arbor Fire Department (AAFD).
The crash happened at 9:33 a.m. on September 22, when a gravel-hauling semi jackknifed and slid off the south shoulder of eastbound I-94. Fire officials noted the wreck occurred within 100 feet of a nearly identical tractor-trailer crash reported on September 3.
According to AAFD, firefighters from Ann Arbor and Scio Township used chainsaws to cut through trees and mud before freeing the driver, who was trapped inside the cab. The driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical care.
Fortunately, both gravel trailers were empty, and no other vehicles were involved. Cleanup and recovery required an extended effort from the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Corrigan Towing, fire officials said.
Traffic on eastbound I-94 was slowed while emergency crews worked at the scene. The Michigan State Police and Ann Arbor Police Department assisted, while Ann Arbor Township Fire provided citywide coverage.
This marks the second tractor-trailer crash in the same I-94 corridor this month, raising concerns for drivers who frequent the stretch near Ann Arbor.
