Phoenix, AZ – A Washington woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly threatening Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) employees in a series of disturbing calls last year.
According to court records, 37-year-old Katie Michelle Dickson allegedly made 18 separate calls to MCACC on June 26, 2024, during which she threatened arson, murder, and sexual violence against staff members. Officials said most of the calls were recorded.
Dickson turned herself in to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office earlier this month after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She has since bonded out of jail and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 21.
“Threats of this nature are unacceptable, and we will do everything in our power to protect staff and hold bad actors accountable,” said Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin. “Animal Care and Control employees do amazing work every day to find good outcomes for the pets in our care, yet they’re often subjected to unfair criticism and relentless personal attacks online and in person. I hope this arrest serves as a reminder that we have their backs.”
Sheriff Jerry Sheridan added that the case was the result of strong collaboration between county partners. “When someone threatens our community with calls of violence, it is not only disruptive but dangerous. We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior, and we will continue to work to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
MCACC Director Debbie McKnight also emphasized staff safety, saying, “We are grateful to law enforcement for their hard work on this investigation. We are committed to providing a safe, respectful space for everyone we serve.”
Dickson is a resident of Vancouver, Washington
