A silvery haze hangs low across Spokane this morning, freezing fog softening headlights and coating windshields in a thin, icy glaze. The calm start won’t last long — snow and rain mix is on track to spread across the Inland Northwest Thursday into Friday, bringing the region’s first measurable early December accumulation and challenging travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, patchy freezing fog will persist into midmorning before thinning. Temperatures remain below freezing early, then edge near 38°F later today. The next round of wintry weather arrives Thursday morning, when snow transitions to a rain–snow mix across much of the Spokane metro area. Higher elevations near 1,900 feet may see 1 to 2 inches of accumulation, with lesser amounts on valley floors.

Drivers should plan for icy intersections, slippery side streets, and reduced visibility — especially during the Thursday morning and evening commutes. Fog and light freezing drizzle could return late Thursday night as temperatures dip near 31°F.

By Friday afternoon, a warmer air mass will begin pushing in from the south, slowly shifting precipitation to light rain. However, slick spots and slushy roadways may persist into early Saturday, particularly near the foothills and rural corridors.

Caution advised: leave extra distance, clear windshields completely, and use headlights in fog. Spokane’s weather remains unsettled through the weekend, with cold rain Saturday and a possible snow return early next week.
