Washington’s Inland Northwest is waking up under gray skies, and the damp chill in Spokane hints at a slippery week ahead. Pavement is wet this morning, and with temperatures hovering in the upper 30s, it won’t take much cooling for icy patches to form.
The National Weather Service in Spokane reports rain early today with highs near 46 degrees before colder air filters in tonight. Rain is expected to mix with and then change to snow after 10 p.m., with temperatures dropping to around 29 degrees. Little accumulation is expected, but brief slick spots are possible by early Tuesday.
Snow chances linger through Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs fall into the upper 30s by Wednesday, with overnight lows dipping into the 20s. Even light snow combined with refreezing moisture could create flash freezing on untreated roads and sidewalks, especially before sunrise and after sunset.
Drivers along I-90 and U.S. 2 should watch for changing conditions, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Keep extra space between vehicles and allow more time for the commute. Conditions may deteriorate quickly if snow bands develop.
By Thursday and Friday, scattered snow showers continue with highs in the mid-30s. Looking ahead to President’s Day Week, temperatures gradually rebound toward 40 degrees by the weekend, signaling a modest late-February warming trend.
