Washington – Mixed precipitation continues to impact multiple Cascade Mountain passes Friday morning, prompting winter weather advisories that remain in effect through midday.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon PST Friday for the Cascades of southern King County, Snohomish and northern King counties, and Pierce and Lewis counties.
At Snoqualmie Pass in southern King County, forecasters report mixed precipitation with ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch, creating slick driving conditions. Similar icing is expected at White Pass in Pierce and Lewis counties, where ice accumulation near one-tenth of an inch may impact travel near Mount Rainier, Paradise, Longmire, and Crystal Mountain.
In the Cascades of Snohomish and northern King counties, including Stevens Pass, snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible, along with a light glaze to one-tenth of an inch of ice. These conditions could impact the Friday morning commute, particularly for travelers crossing higher elevations.
Officials warn that slippery road conditions are likely across affected mountain passes, with reduced traction on untreated surfaces. Ice accumulation may also contribute to isolated power outages, especially in areas where freezing rain persists.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions when traveling through the Cascades this morning.
For commuters, freight drivers, and early-morning travelers, the advisory highlights continued travel hazards until temperatures rise later today and conditions gradually improve.
