Leavenworth, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Chelan County and surrounding areas beginning Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon, as forecasters warn of snow and light freezing precipitation that could make travel dangerous for Thanksgiving travelers.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, snow will develop late Tuesday morning, continuing through Wednesday afternoon. Snowfall totals are expected to reach 2 to 4 inches below 4,000 feet and up to 9 inches in higher elevations, including Stevens Pass and Holden Village. Light freezing rain may also occur at times, producing a thin glaze of ice on bridges and overpasses.

Officials caution that roads, especially in mountain corridors and shaded areas, could become slick and hazardous. The advisory covers key travel routes, including U.S. Highway 2 near Leavenworth and Stevens Pass, where snow and freezing rain may lead to delays or closures.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use tire chains where required, and check road updates at wsdot.wa.gov/travel before heading out. Those traveling for Thanksgiving should plan for extra travel time and carry emergency supplies such as food, water, and blankets.

Snow is expected to taper by Wednesday evening, though icy conditions could persist into Thanksgiving morning at higher elevations.
