Portland, OR – A winter weather advisory is in effect for the South Washington Cascades starting at 5 PM PDT today and lasting until 5 PM PDT Tuesday. Snow is expected to accumulate between 6 and 12 inches above 4000 feet, with the heaviest snowfall expected above 5000 feet.
According to the National Weather Service, periods of heavy snow will create hazardous driving conditions in the area, especially in the mountainous regions. Visibility may be limited, making travel challenging.
The advisory covers areas including Larch Mountain, Indian Heaven Wilderness, and Mt. St. Helens. Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on road conditions by visiting the Washington State Department of Transportation website for real-time travel maps and chain restrictions. The National Weather Service also recommends that motorists prepare for winter travel by packing an emergency kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, and tire chains.
As icy conditions are expected on walking surfaces, pedestrians are urged to use extra caution.
