Bellingham, WA – Winter weather has returned to the higher elevations of northern Washington, where the National Weather Service reports up to 8 inches of new snow possible through late Wednesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. PDT Wednesday, Oct. 29, for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, including Mount Baker, and for Washington Pass in Western Okanogan County, according to the NWS offices in Seattle and Spokane.

Snow levels are expected to drop to around 4,500 feet overnight, with the heaviest snowfall early Wednesday morning. Total accumulations between 6 and 8 inches could make for slick roads and difficult driving through the mountain passes.

The weather service warns that motorists should slow down and allow extra time for travel, particularly along State Route 20 and access roads near Mount Baker Ski Area. Visibility may also be reduced during heavier bursts of snow.

Travelers are advised to check current pass reports at wsdot.wa.gov/travel before heading into higher terrain.
