Seattle, WA – A major winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to Washington’s Cascade Mountains starting Monday morning. Travel could become hazardous, especially in high-elevation areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Tuesday for elevations above 3,000 to 4,000 feet. Forecasts predict 12 to 24 inches of snow, with some areas seeing up to 2 feet. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, increasing the risk of tree damage and power outages.
The affected areas include Snoqualmie Pass, Stevens Pass, Holden Village, and Packwood. The heaviest snowfall is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, with rates of 1 inch per hour possible.
Drivers should avoid mountain travel if possible and carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights. Power outages may occur in wind-exposed locations.
