Seattle, WA – A major winter storm continues to blanket the northern Washington Cascades tonight, with forecasters warning of dangerous conditions for anyone traveling through mountain passes. The National Weather Service says a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. PST Saturday, covering the Cascades of Snohomish and northern King counties, including Stevens Pass.

According to the National Weather Service Seattle office, storm totals are expected to reach 12 to 18 inches of snow, with winds gusting up to 40 mph through Saturday afternoon. The combination of heavy snowfall and strong winds may lead to blowing snow, reduced visibility, and periods of whiteout.

The NWS cautions that travel across the Cascades could become very difficult to impossible, especially during heavier bursts of snow. Stevens Pass is expected to experience some of the most hazardous conditions as accumulation increases overnight and into Saturday.

Officials are urging anyone who must drive across the mountains to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, water, and food, in case of delays or closures. Power outages are also possible due to the weight of snow and gusty winds impacting tree limbs and utility lines.

Additional updates from the National Weather Service will be issued as conditions evolve through Saturday.
