Seattle, WA – Widespread gusty winds are expected to impact Western Washington from late Sunday night through Monday, with gusts exceeding 45 mph possible, according to forecasters.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, strong south winds will begin late Sunday (December 14) and continue through late Monday night. The most intense winds are expected during specific time windows depending on location.
Forecasters say the Washington coast is most likely to see the strongest gusts between 1 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, while interior lowland areas, including the Puget Sound region, will see peak gusts from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.
The highest probabilities for 45 mph or stronger gusts extend from the Olympic Peninsula through the Puget Sound corridor, including Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, Olympia, and surrounding communities.
With soils already saturated from recent rainfall, officials warn there is an elevated risk of trees being blown down, which could lead to localized power outages, blocked roads, and sporadic landslides, especially in hillside and coastal areas.
Residents are urged to secure or bring inside loose outdoor items, including patio furniture, trash cans, trampolines, and sports equipment. Drivers should use caution, particularly when traveling near trees, bridges, and exposed roadways.
While widespread damage is not guaranteed, forecasters emphasize that even isolated wind-related impacts can disrupt Monday morning travel and daily routines.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Monday night as winds ease.
