Spokane, WA – Patchy freezing fog and a mix of rain and snow could disrupt weekend travel across eastern Washington.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution starting Thursday night as patchy freezing fog reduces visibility, especially on lower-elevation roads. The National Weather Service forecasts that freezing fog will develop after 4 a.m. Friday and continue through the morning hours. Areas at or below 4,000 feet may see slick roads as temperatures hover near freezing.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions will remain cloudy Thursday, with highs reaching 35°F. By Friday, freezing fog is expected to dissipate by mid-morning, transitioning to cloudy skies and a mild high of 41°F. However, precipitation increases into Saturday, with a 70% chance of rain and possible snow in higher elevations. Snow levels will rise to 5,400 feet by the afternoon before tapering off overnight.

Sunday brings a slight chance of snow mixing with rain early, gradually clearing to partly sunny skies by afternoon. Highs will reach 41°F, offering some relief from the colder, foggy conditions earlier in the week.

Travelers heading into the mountains this weekend should prepare for milder temperatures above 4,000 feet but remain alert for patchy fog and snow through Friday night. Keep roads like U.S. Highway 2 and Interstate 90 in mind as visibility may be reduced.

Residents are advised to plan for variable road conditions and stay updated on evolving forecasts. Carrying chains and emergency supplies is recommended for anyone traveling through higher altitudes this weekend.
