SEATTLE – The calm, cloudy start to Veterans Day won’t last much longer. A string of Pacific systems lining up offshore will soon bring a steady stretch of November rain to the Puget Sound region — lasting well into the weekend and reminding residents that Seattle’s wet season is in full swing.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, rain chances increase late Tuesday before a stronger system rolls in Wednesday morning. Periods of rain will intensify through midweek, with the heaviest rainfall expected Wednesday night and Thursday. Forecasters expect up to a half inch of rain per day across King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties, with locally higher totals along the coast and Cascade foothills.
The steady rain could make for slick pavement, standing water in low-lying areas, and slower commutes along I-5, I-405, and Highway 99. Light winds will accompany the front, with gusts near 25 mph along the Sound and higher gusts over coastal headlands. While no flooding is expected at this time, saturated soils may cause minor drainage issues in urban areas.
By Friday, showers will taper slightly but remain frequent, keeping skies gray and temperatures steady in the low 50s. Looking ahead, a brief break in rain may arrive Saturday before another disturbance approaches late Sunday — the kind of “train of storms” typical for mid-November in western Washington.
Residents planning early Thanksgiving travel should watch for additional systems next week, as models hint at more rain and cooler air settling in before the holiday.
