PULLMAN, Wash. – Strong southwest winds will sweep across southeast Washington on Sunday, bringing hazardous driving conditions and a risk for scattered power outages. The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a Wind Advisory from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. PDT Sunday for the Washington Palouse, Lower Garfield and Asotin Counties, and the Northeast Blue Mountains, including Pullman, Colfax, Clarkston, and Pomeroy.
According to the Weather Service, southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected through the day. The windiest conditions will develop by late morning and persist into early evening before gradually easing Sunday night.
Forecasters warn that tree limbs could be blown down, and unsecured outdoor objects—such as patio furniture, trash cans, and farm equipment—may be displaced. Drivers of high-profile vehicles, especially along U.S. 195, State Route 27, and U.S. 12, should use extra caution in crosswinds. Minor power outages are possible where lines are impacted by debris.
According to the National Weather Service, calmer and cooler weather will return Monday with light winds and seasonal fall temperatures across the Palouse and Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
