Spokane, WA – Travelers planning to cross Washington Pass this weekend should prepare for winter driving conditions as heavy snow develops Saturday night through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Spokane.

Precipitation will begin as rain Saturday evening before transitioning to snow overnight, with around a foot of accumulation possible by Sunday morning. The NWS forecasts near 12 inches of snow within 24 hours, with locally higher totals possible depending on elevation.

The heaviest snow is expected late Saturday night into early Sunday, creating slippery roads and reduced visibility along Highway 20.

Forecasters note that snowfall amounts could vary, but even the lower-end projections would lead to difficult travel, especially for those heading into or over the North Cascades. Motorists are urged to use extra caution, carry winter gear, and consider delaying travel if possible.
