Seattle, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 11 p.m. Sunday for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, where up to 8 inches of snow is expected at higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle, snowfall will mainly affect areas above 4,500 feet, including Mount Baker and Rainy Pass. The storm is expected to continue throughout the day, creating slick and potentially hazardous travel conditions on mountain roads and passes.
Forecasters said travelers and backcountry visitors should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, limited visibility, and snow-covered roads. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution when driving in affected areas, as road surfaces may become icy by evening.
The NWS added that the heaviest accumulations will remain confined to the highest elevations, but mountain recreation areas could experience early-season winter impacts. Those planning outdoor activities in the northern Cascades should bring proper gear and check forecasts before heading out.
