Spokane, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Western Okanogan County, where heavy mountain snow is expected to create dangerous travel conditions from Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Spokane.
The advisory, effective from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Friday, applies to elevations above 4,000 feet. Forecasters predict total snow accumulations between 7 and 15 inches, with the heaviest amounts near Washington Pass and the Cascade crest.
Light snow is expected to begin Tuesday night, bringing a few inches of accumulation before heavier snow develops Wednesday night into Thursday. Periods of intense snowfall could reach rates of one inch per hour, significantly reducing visibility and making mountain travel difficult or impossible at times.
Motorists planning to travel through the North Cascades or other high-elevation routes should check WSDOT updates, carry chains, and allow extra travel time. Freezing temperatures and wet snow may also lead to slick conditions at lower elevations.
Snow is expected to taper off by Friday morning, with improving travel conditions later in the day.
