Seattle, WA – Drivers heading through the North Cascades this week should prepare for difficult travel and heavy mountain snow, as the National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit counties, including the Mount Baker area.
The advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Friday, with total snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches expected, mainly along the Cascade crest and higher points of Highway 20.
According to forecasters, snow will begin late Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday night, leading to slippery and potentially hazardous road conditions—particularly on mountain passes and along the North Cascades Highway.
Travelers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check mountain pass conditions before driving. The NWS also advises preparing for possible power outages in higher elevations due to heavy, wet snow.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually Friday morning as snowfall tapers off.
