Seattle, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Cascades of Snohomish and northern King Counties, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to impact travel over Stevens Pass beginning Friday evening and lasting through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, snow will begin around 7 p.m. Friday and continue until 10 p.m. Saturday, with total accumulations between 5 and 10 inches possible. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, making for low visibility and slick road conditions.

Forecasters warn that travel over Stevens Pass may become very difficult, especially during the Friday evening commute, as snowfall rates could reach or exceed 1 inch per hour in bursts. A convergence zone and periodic heavy snow bands will intensify conditions through Saturday.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check WSDOT updates for the latest information on pass conditions and potential closures. The combination of snow and gusty winds may also lead to isolated power outages in nearby mountain communities.

Those planning to cross the Cascades should prepare for extended travel times and rapidly changing weather conditions late Friday into Saturday night.
