Washington – Fog hangs low over neighborhoods and river valleys around Spokane, softening streetlights and muting early traffic sounds. Damp air clings to sidewalks, and visibility shifts block by block as drivers head out.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog developed before sunrise and may linger through the late morning hours. Visibility drops in spots, especially near the Spokane River and low-lying roads. Temperatures start near the upper 30s and climb toward the upper 40s this afternoon under mostly cloudy skies.
Travel impacts remain the main concern early. Fog may thin quickly in some areas, then redevelop a few miles down the road. Drivers along I-90, U.S. 2, and Highway 395 should slow down, use headlights, and allow extra following distance.
A slight chance of rain develops later today and again Sunday, mainly during the afternoon and early evening. Rain amounts stay light, but wet pavement combined with cooler air could create slick spots, especially after sunset. Snow levels remain well above the city, keeping precipitation liquid in Spokane.
Sunday night stays mostly cloudy, with lows near the mid-30s. Monday brings another chance of light rain, mainly before midday. Temperatures hold near the upper 40s, and winds remain light, limiting bigger impacts.
By Tuesday, conditions improve. Clouds break at times, and highs rise into the low 50s. Wednesday and Thursday trend milder and drier, with highs in the low to mid-50s and calmer travel conditions across the region.
Nationally, winter’s grip tightens east of the Rockies, where nearly half of the Great Lakes are frozen solid. That locked-in cold keeps storm tracks active elsewhere, while the Inland Northwest sees quieter but tricky fog and light rain.
For now, expect changing visibility this morning and damp roads at times through early week. Conditions improve by midweek.
