Washington – A crisp sunrise across Spokane reveals frozen grass, quiet streets, and temperatures near 25°F, one of the colder starts in the Inland Northwest this week. But the calm winter-like morning is only the beginning of a shifting weather pattern.
Clouds will gradually build through the morning hours as the next Pacific system approaches eastern Washington.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, temperatures will climb to around 42°F this afternoon as skies turn mostly cloudy. Light southeast winds will keep conditions relatively calm for travel through the city.
Drivers heading along Interstate 90, U.S. Highway 2, and Division Street should see dry pavement early today. Conditions may begin changing later tonight as moisture arrives.
Forecasters say a rain and snow mix could develop late tonight, especially before midnight. Snow levels start low but quickly rise toward 3,900 feet, meaning most areas of Spokane should see minimal accumulation.
Still, brief slushy patches could develop on elevated roads and bridges during the late evening hours.
By Monday afternoon, precipitation shifts mainly to light rain with temperatures near 49°F across Spokane, Spokane Valley, and Airway Heights.
The broader pattern signals the early stages of spring. Temperatures rebound significantly by midweek as warmer Pacific air spreads into eastern Washington.
By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, highs reach near 59°F, bringing a noticeable change from the frosty start to the week.
Midweek temperatures climb further with around 61°F Wednesday and near 65°F Thursday, though occasional rain showers remain possible.
Meteorologists say the warming trend reflects a broader early-spring shift across the western United States.
If traveling late tonight, allow extra time and watch for slick bridge surfaces.
