Spokane, Wash. – High temperatures and gusty winds are set to slam eastern Washington and north Idaho through Tuesday morning, bringing threats of power outages, dangerous driving conditions, and heat-related illnesses.
According to the National Weather Service Spokane, a heat advisory remains in effect for Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Moses Lake, Lewiston, and surrounding cities until 8 p.m. Monday, with temperatures climbing into the lower 90s—reaching near 100°F around Lewiston. A wind advisory follows for the Coeur d’Alene area, Post Falls, Worley, and Hayden from 6 p.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday, warning of sustained northeast winds of 20–30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.
Power outages are possible as strong winds could knock down tree limbs and power lines, especially along I-90, US-2, and rural roads. Emergency managers urge residents to secure loose outdoor items and avoid parking under trees. For those in high-profile vehicles, driving conditions may become hazardous Monday night.
Anyone spending time outside should stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, and wear lightweight clothing. Check on neighbors and the elderly, especially in areas without air conditioning.
The most intense conditions will persist through Monday night, with additional alerts possible as new weather systems approach.
