Roslyn, Washington – Drivers crossing the upper slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades are facing visibility reduced to one-half mile or less as freezing fog settles over mountain roads through mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for the Cascade Crest, including Roslyn and Easton. Thick fog combined with subfreezing temperatures is creating icy patches and sharply reduced visibility.

Motorists traveling along Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass and surrounding mountain routes may encounter sudden drops in visibility, especially in higher elevations and shaded stretches. Moisture from the fog can freeze on contact with road surfaces, bridges and guardrails, leading to slick conditions even where snow is not falling.

Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, use headlights and maintain extra following distance. Allow additional travel time and be prepared for rapid changes in visibility around curves and elevation changes.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 10 a.m. as visibility increases, but drivers should remain cautious through the late morning hours while temperatures stay below freezing.
