Stevens Pass, WA – Snowfall rates approaching 1 inch per hour are creating hazardous driving conditions across the North Cascades, with up to 8 inches of accumulation expected before early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday for Western Chelan County, including Stevens Pass, Holden Village and Stehekin. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 8 inches are expected, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of snowfall rates reaching 1 inch per hour during heavier bursts.

Along U.S. Highway 2 at Stevens Pass, snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility could slow traffic through the morning. Drivers heading toward Leavenworth or Lake Chelan should prepare for winter travel conditions and changing road surfaces at higher elevations.

Farther east, a separate advisory takes effect at noon for Lookout Pass in Idaho’s Central Panhandle Mountains and continues until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Wet snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches are expected, with a 20 to 30 percent chance of snowfall rates nearing 1 inch per hour Monday evening. Variable road conditions are likely after sunset along Interstate 90.

Travelers are urged to slow down and check WSDOT or Idaho 511 for updated pass conditions. Advisories remain in effect through early afternoon in Washington and through Tuesday morning at Lookout Pass.
