Spokane, WA – Streetlights sway and branches rattle across Spokane early this morning as powerful southwest winds continue to surge through the region. Gusts reaching 55 mph are expected through 7 a.m. Thursday, part of a Wind Advisory covering much of eastern Washington and north Idaho, including the Palouse, Coeur d’Alene, and Spokane Valley areas.

Winds between 25 and 35 mph are common, and higher gusts along ridgelines and open stretches of I-90 could make driving difficult—especially for high-profile vehicles. Scattered power flickers and falling limbs have already been reported in some neighborhoods.

Meteorologists say conditions will ease by midmorning, followed by a calmer but still cloudy pattern through Friday. Temperatures will remain mild for December, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the low 40s. However, light rain or a rain/snow mix could develop late Thursday night into Friday morning as colder air begins to creep eastward.

Five-Day Outlook (Spokane, WA)

  • Friday: Mostly cloudy, high 52°F, low 41°F.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, high 53°F, low 39°F.
  • Sunday: Mostly cloudy, slight chance of rain, high 58°F.
  • Monday: Rain likely, high 54°F, low 42°F.
  • Tuesday: Rain or snow mix possible, high 51°F, low 38°F.

Hold onto your hats this morning, Spokane—the December winds will calm soon, but winter’s next act may bring colder, wetter weather before the week is done.
