Wenatchee, Washington – Roads across north central Washington’s mountain passes could turn slick by early Wednesday morning as snow begins falling, with conditions worsening overnight into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. Wednesday through 11 a.m. Thursday for elevations above 3,000 to 4,000 feet. Snow accumulations between 3 and 9 inches are expected across the Cascades and Okanogan Highlands.

Key travel routes including Stevens Pass, Sherman Pass, and Highway 20 at Wauconda Summit will see increasing snow through the day Wednesday, with the most hazardous conditions developing Wednesday night into early Thursday. Loup Loup Pass and surrounding roads in Okanogan County will also become snow-covered and slick.

Light snow during the Wednesday morning hours will create patchy icy spots, but snowfall will intensify later in the day, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of spinouts on untreated roads.

Drivers should slow down, carry traction devices, and check WSDOT travel updates before heading into higher elevations.

Conditions are expected to improve by late Thursday morning, but hazardous travel may persist in shaded and higher elevation areas.
