Tacoma, WA — A 13-year-old boy in Pierce County was arrested early Saturday after allegedly threatening to carry out a school shooting and claiming access to firearms.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received intelligence Friday afternoon about a juvenile making threats to kill while referencing school shooter ideations. The teen also reportedly stated he had firearms available.
Authorities said around 1 a.m. Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office and SWAT executed a warrant at the boy’s home in the 13500 block of 20th Avenue Court East. The teen was taken into custody without incident and booked into Remann Hall, a juvenile detention center.
Investigators allegedly seized numerous firearms, both secured and unsecured, along with loaded magazines and writings that referenced school shootings. Officials said clothing and other materials that could indicate preparation for a mass shooting scenario were also confiscated.
The Sheriff’s Office reported the boy had last been enrolled in the Franklin Pierce School District in 2021 but is not currently a student in any district. The case remains under investigation as detectives continue reviewing the seized materials.
Sheriff’s officials thanked supporting agencies and personnel who worked through the night to act quickly on the information. “Thanks to their quick actions, we are safe today,” the statement read.
No injuries were reported, and authorities emphasized that the arrest prevented a possible threat to the community.
