Heavy snow in Washington’s Cascades is creating hazardous conditions today, with roadways such as I-90, US-2, and US-12 seeing slick surfaces and low visibility. Snow accumulations of up to 12 inches are expected in mountain passes by tonight, with snowfall tapering off this evening.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), slick and icy roads have been reported near Snoqualmie Pass and White Pass. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, pack emergency supplies, and check road conditions through the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) before traveling. Reduced speeds and increased distance between vehicles are strongly advised.
Sunday’s high in the Seattle metro area will reach 49°F, with rain likely until the afternoon. The weather will clear by evening, giving way to mostly sunny skies on Monday with a high near 47°F. However, colder overnight temperatures could lead to patches of ice on roads into Monday morning.
Looking ahead, the region will see mostly dry conditions through midweek, with rain returning by Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will hover in the upper 40s during the day and mid-30s at night. Snow chances increase again late next week, particularly at higher elevations in the Cascades.
Residents and travelers are reminded to stay updated on weather conditions and use caution during periods of heavy precipitation.
