Pendleton, OR – Warmer days are on the way across central Washington and eastern Oregon, with temperatures expected to hit 70°F or higher between Sunday and Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the region will likely see its first 70°F highs of the season from March 23–26, particularly across the Lower Columbia Basin and surrounding foothills. Cities such as Walla Walla, Pasco, Hermiston, Yakima, and Pendleton are forecast to reach peak temperatures of 74°F to 77°F by midweek.

The warming trend could cause rivers and streams across south-central Washington and eastern Oregon to rise due to snowmelt, runoff, and possible rainfall. The NWS warns that this increase is expected primarily from Wednesday through Friday, although the probability of river flooding currently remains low, at approximately 30%.

Residents are urged to monitor the latest forecasts for updates, especially those in low-lying or flood-prone areas. While the sunny, spring-like temperatures may offer a welcome break from cooler conditions, warming this early can impact local waterways and travel conditions.

Daily temperature records may be approached or broken Tuesday and Wednesday, with Walla Walla forecast to peak at 77°F and Hermiston at 75°F. Stay weather-aware through midweek as conditions shift.
