Pendleton, Oregon – Temperatures are set to soar across Eastern Oregon and Southeast Washington this weekend, with triple-digit heat threatening health and safety from Saturday through Monday evening. Many communities along the Columbia Basin, Gorge, and surrounding foothills could see afternoon highs between 100 and 105 degrees, especially on Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Heat Advisory will be in effect from 12 p.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Monday for the Lower Columbia Basin, Columbia River Gorge, Yakima, and Kittitas Valleys. The hottest hours will stretch across Umatilla, Morrow, Benton, Klickitat, and Franklin counties, where prolonged exposure increases risk for heat illness.
Residents in Pendleton, Hermiston, The Dalles, Yakima, and Kennewick should limit outdoor activity, wear light-colored clothing, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Air-conditioned spaces offer critical relief during peak hours. Cooling centers may open in select cities if needed. Local officials urge everyone to drink extra water and avoid leaving kids or pets in vehicles.
With temperatures near 105°F Sunday and upper 90s elsewhere, power grids and roadways may be stressed. This event is the region’s hottest stretch since late June, and further advisories are possible if the heat lingers into next week.
Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday. Stay tuned to NWS Pendleton for updates.
