Spokane, WA – Commuters across eastern Washington and north Idaho are waking up to widespread snowfall this morning as multiple Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through late morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Spokane reports that several corridors—including Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, the Palouse, Lookout Pass, and the Camas Prairie—will see slippery roads and variable snow totals through 11 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the NWS, most areas can expect 1 to 2 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches across the Idaho Palouse and southern Shoshone County. Mountain passes such as Lookout Pass and Fourth of July Pass may also pick up several additional inches, creating challenging travel early in the day.

A narrow band of snow formed along I-90 between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., bringing light to locally moderate bursts from Spokane Valley to Coeur d’Alene. Meanwhile, communities including Moscow, Pullman, Colfax, Oakesdale, and Rosalia are seeing scattered moderate snow bands that may cause rapid changes in road conditions over short distances.

Farther south, the higher elevations of the Camas Prairie—including Nezperce, Craigmont, Winchester, and Soldiers Meadow Road—are forecast to receive up to 2 additional inches through late morning.

Temperatures hovering near freezing are contributing to slick roads, especially on bridges, rural highways, and shaded areas. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and plan for delays on major routes such as U.S. 95, State Route 27, and I-90 from Spokane to the Idaho state line.

The bulk of the snowfall is expected to taper off after mid-morning, but untreated roads may remain icy into the early afternoon.
