Omak, Washington – High winds could snap trees, knock out power, and turn roads hazardous across the Okanogan Valley Monday afternoon as gusts near 60 mph funnel through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for Brewster, Tonasket, Okanogan, Omak, Oroville, Nespelem, Bridgeport, and Disautel Pass from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday. North winds between 30 and 40 mph, with occasional gusts as high as 60 mph, are expected to cause widespread outages and hazardous travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles along US-97 and SR-155.
Residents should prepare for the potential of falling trees and power lines, with the greatest risk coming late Monday afternoon. Brief periods of blowing dust could suddenly reduce visibility, particularly near open fields and valley roads. Emergency management officials urge everyone to secure loose outdoor items, remain indoors away from windows, and stay off the roads if possible. If you must travel, use caution and watch for debris or downed lines.
Monday’s windstorm could rival similar July events seen in recent years, with utility crews on alert for rapid response. The High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m., and additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
