Spokane, Washington – Residents across Spokane and much of eastern Washington are facing an extended period of dangerously hot weather, with afternoon temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and little overnight relief expected through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, highs in Spokane will reach 97°F by Tuesday and spike to 98°F on Wednesday. The area will see mostly sunny skies and dry conditions, with overnight lows struggling to fall below the mid-60s. Southwest winds between 6–10 mph will offer limited cooling, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and rapidly drying grasslands.
Hot, dry weather stretches from Spokane southward through Cheney and eastward into Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Outdoor workers, older adults, and young children are most at risk. Spokane Fire and regional EMS warn that the ongoing stretch of high heat elevates wildfire danger, especially along I-90, US-2, and in rural neighborhoods near Medical Lake and Airway Heights.
Residents should limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Charge devices and prepare for possible power strain as air conditioners run at full capacity. This marks Spokane’s hottest week of the summer so far—comparable to the record heat wave of June 2021.
Temperatures are expected to stay above 90°F until at least Thursday, with only a slight chance of evening showers Wednesday night. Further updates or advisories are possible if conditions worsen.
