Spokane, Wash. – Dangerous heat will grip Eastern Washington on Tuesday as highs soar into the triple digits across much of the Inland Northwest, prompting health risks for anyone without access to cooling or proper hydration.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Moderate to Major HeatRisk is in effect Tuesday, July 1, for areas including Spokane, Yakima, Pasco, and Wenatchee, where afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 95°F and 103°F. The heat will be most intense between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., especially in lower elevations and urban centers.
Residents in Yakima and the Tri-Cities could see temperatures hit 102°F to 104°F, while Spokane and Pullman are forecast to reach the upper 90s to low 100s. Officials urge people to stay indoors where possible, wear lightweight clothing, and drink water frequently—even if they don’t feel thirsty.
Outdoor workers, older adults, and those without air conditioning are especially vulnerable. The NWS recommends checking on neighbors, avoiding strenuous activity during peak heat, and keeping fans or AC units running throughout the day.
Heat advisories may extend into Wednesday if temperatures remain elevated.
