Cle Elum, WA – Residents and travelers in parts of eastern Washington should prepare for possible flooding as a Flood Watch takes effect late tonight and continues through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch includes the upper and lower slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades Crest, covering communities such as Cle Elum, Roslyn, Easton, Cliffdell, and Appleton. The alert was issued Sunday afternoon as forecasters warned that prolonged rainfall could lead to excessive runoff across the region.

Meteorologists say rivers, creeks, and streams are already running high, increasing the risk that additional rainfall could push waterways out of their banks. Low-lying and flood-prone areas, including low water crossings, may become flooded as rain continues through the early part of the week.

The Flood Watch is scheduled to remain in effect from late Sunday night through Wednesday morning. While a watch does not guarantee flooding, it signals that conditions are favorable and residents should stay alert for potential Flood Warnings if rainfall intensifies or water levels rise quickly.

Officials urge people living near creeks, streams, and rivers to monitor forecasts closely and be ready to take action if flooding develops. Drivers are also reminded to avoid traveling through flooded roadways, as water depth and road conditions can be difficult to judge, especially overnight.

The National Weather Service recommends keeping informed through local alerts and forecasts and reviewing flood safety guidance at weather.gov/safety/flood.
